While Sandro Cortese had already wrapped up the Moto3 championship, that didn’t slow him down in Moto3. The Red Bull KTM rider took a strong victory ahead of Miguel Oliveira and local rider Arthur Sissis.

In Moto2 from Phillip Island Marc Marquez had a simple target: score 2 or more points and you’re the champion. Pol Espargaro on the other hand needed to win the race and Marquez to end out of the points. Espargaro did what he needed to do, but Marquez didn’t cooperate. Scott Redding and Anthony West did what they could, but in the end Marquez grabbed the final podium position behind West in one of the better final laps of the season.

Casey Stoner was on a mission this weekend – very strong in practice but fate caught up with him as he dumped his Honda in qualifying. Stoner dusted himself off and took the pole with Jorge Lorenzo and Dani Pedrosa following. Unfortunately for Pedrosa his hopes of a championship lasted about 1 3/4 lap as he tossed away any chance of a showdown in Valencia. Stoner quickly gapped Lorenzo who cruised to his second MotoGP championship. Cal Crutchlow benefitted from Pedrosa’s screw-up by taking the final podium position at Phillip Island.
